Walking through time in Wooler :  2018-2021

GLHS with Glendale Walkers for Health

This project aims to promote Wooler’s history by encouraging residents and visitors to explore Wooler & its environs and to see how the town & the landscape has been shaped through millennia.
During 2018-2020, the team produced five Walks Leaflets, three of which are history-themed, and 11 History-Themed Information Boards displayed on buildings in and around Wooler town centre. Three events for children took place at different times of year. The team then went on to produce a book of ten history-themed walks, including some additional walks. This was finished in 2021.
The Project Team consisted of: Pam Ratcliffe, Allan Colman, Patsy Healey & Helen Astley from GLHS; Chris Crosbie, Marilyne Bullock & Joan Hogg from Glendale Walkers, and Bill Eugster leading the activities for children. The Walks book was created by Pam Ratcliffe, Allan Colman, Patsy Healey and Chris Crosbie.
The Project was funded by Northumberland National Park, the Carnegie UK Trust & Northumberland County Council, along with smaller contributions from the Archbold Trust, Berwick Rotary, Glendale Small Grants Fund, the James Knott Trust & the North Northumberland Voluntary Forum Small Grants Fund, and a significant contribution from GLHS itself.

The Book and the leaflets can be purchased from the TIC at the Cheviot Centre, Padgepool Place, Wooler, and outlets in Wooler High Street.
They can also be obtained direct from GLHS – see the Publications page of this website.
