Glendale in Focus: 2017-2018
In 2017, Glendale Local History Society, Sheep Tales and Wooler Camera Club got together and decided to produce a series of photographs which reflected the ‘then and now’ of the Glendale area. The project was fortunate in that Sheep Tales had a large collection of pictures dating from the late 19th century.
The History Society successfully applied for a grant from Northumberland National Park allowing the three groups to produce just over a hundred images from over one thousand images of the past.
This large number of images was reduced to reflect an area from Ford in the north, College Valley in the west, Linhope in the south and Chatton in the east.
Members of the Camera Club were tasked with taking the modern pictures.
Although it appears that the organisations were working independently because of the nature of the local community some of the participants were members of more than one group.
All pictures were printed on acrylic to ensure their durability.
The resulting display were first exhibited at the Glendale Festival in 2018 and has since appeared at a number of venues where they have stimulated a great deal of interest.
